... And Another Thing

The Age

Tuesday October 28, 2008

LABOR, Liberals and Nationals want the Lord's Prayer to continue to be read in Parliament - "it's a long-standing tradition". So too are hypocrisy, back-stabbing and self-interest. Our Lord hasn't had much influence there, so it looks like we're stuck with those as well. Roger Green, Ferntree Gully

Politics ... and religion

MANY people do not believe in God and many are unsure. However, just in case She is watching, it might be wise to leave well enough alone ... a women scorned and all that.

Gavan Podbury, Fairfield

THE Lord's Prayer says "thy will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven". If question time is indicative of this, heaven must be a most unsavoury place.

J.Cosmo Newbery, Burwood

WITH the separation of church and state, why is a prayer being said at the daily opening of Parliament anyway?

Garry Meller, Bentleigh

... And the economy

THE Australian economy appears to be doing better than most, despite the efforts of Malcolm Turnbull and Julie Bishop at making everyone fearful about the future.

Rob Kneale, Ascot Vale

"KEVIN 07"? A bit more like "mistake 08".

Amir Goubran, Wheelers Hill

... And the internet

IT SEEMS Senator Steve Fielding is taking his party's name seriously. By blocking all access to material it finds offensive, Family First seems intent on treating us all like children.

Christopher White, Hawthorn

THE education revolution: an Australia where Senator Stephen Conroy approves websites before we can read them.

Bhakthi Puvanenthiran, Templestowe

STEVE Fielding, keep your religion away from my internet and I'll keep my logic away from your religion. Deal?

Rupert Dance, North Melbourne

Music academy

AS ONE who attends and is enriched by the musical offerings at the Australian National Academy of Music, my assessment of the loss to audience participants is incalculable. The closing of this academy is, put simply, tragic.

Frances Miller, South Melbourne

IF THE Olympics add synchronised musicianship with bronze, silver and gold medals, watch our pollies fall over themselves to allocate lots of money to this new sport.

Evert de Graauw, Wantirna

THOSE upset by the withdrawal of funding for ANAM may have been reassured by reading (The Age, 27/10) that an Australian has just been crowned world karaoke champion.

Kim W.Harris, Mount Waverley

ANAM could play on for a further 16 years with the $40 million given to Baz Luhrmann for his arcane tourist promotion.

Eva Reid, Hawthorn

Moreover

I GUESS anyone seen wearing a "Kevin07" or an "I've got a crush on Obama" T-shirt will also be ejected from the Docklands stadium.

Andrew Walby, Clifton Hill

OK, I understand that a cat has nine lives. But can someone tell me how many times a dead cat can bounce?

Colleen Heatley, Drouin
