A TEACHER has resigned after being stood down over allegations she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student at St Joseph's College in Ferntree Gully.
While Michelle Ines Alleri has denied any wrongdoing, she has resigned, Channel Nine reported. School principal Vin Feeney said Ms Alleri was stood down after he interviewed her and the student involved. "The allegation was that the teacher was conducting an inappropriate relationship of a sexual nature with a senior student," he said. "I had confirmed the relationship. It was on that basis that we stood the teacher down." No criminal charges can be laid because the student was 17 at the time of the alleged relationship. The matter was referred to the Catholic Education Office and the Victorian Institute of Teaching, which moved to deregister Ms Alleri at a hearing last Thursday, Channel Nine reported. It will meet again in January.
